LEELAI ORU KILI ORU KILI- SONG AND LYRICS

This is my most favorite of the Leelai soundtracks. I even made a youtube video out of it with some pics of the movie's main stars Shiv Pandit and Mansi Parekh. Satish Chakravarthy, the movie's music director has done a great job with the tunes. Hard to believe its his first attempt in tamil movies. Plus he has an amazing voice ( more romantic and pleasant according to me) and along with Shreya Ghoshal this song is a perfect duet. Kinda reminds me of Munbe va song from Jillunu oru kaadhal movie. May be because Shreya Ghoshal sings the female lyrics in that one too and the tune style is similar. Altogether a soul touching song....

BLUE EYES

This article i saw some where on the net(as always)
Why it interested me was because of Blue eyes. I always wished I had blue eyes or green or some thing lighter than my brown eyes :( But that's God's decision is it not.

But according to science they got a different explanation .. so here it goes.
New research shows that people with blue eyes have a single, common ancestor. A team at the University of Copenhagen have tracked down a genetic mutation which took place 6-10,000 years ago and is the cause of the eye color of all blue-eyed humans alive on the planet today. “Originally, we all had brown eyes.”New research shows that people with blue eyes have a single, common ancestor. A team at the University of Copenhagen have tracked down a genetic mutation which took place 6-10,000 years ago and is the cause of the eye color of all blue-eyed humans alive on the planet today.

“Originally, we all had brown eyes”, said Professor Eiberg from the Department of Cellular and Molecular Medicine. “But a genetic mutation affecting the OCA2 gene in our chromosomes resulted in the creation of a “switch”, which literally “turned off” the ability to produce brown eyes”. The OCA2 gene codes for the so-called P protein, which is involved in the production of melanin, the pigment that gives colour to our hair, eyes and skin. The “switch”, which is located in the gene adjacent to OCA2 does not, however, turn off the gene entirely, but rather limits its action to reducing the production of melanin in the iris – effectively “diluting” brown eyes to blue. The switch’s effect on OCA2 is very specific therefore. If the OCA2 gene had been completely destroyed or turned off, human beings would be without melanin in their hair, eyes or skin color – a condition known as albinism.

Variation in the color of the eyes from brown to green can all be explained by the amount of melanin in the iris, but blue-eyed individuals only have a small degree of variation in the amount of melanin in their eyes. “From this we can conclude that all blue-eyed individuals are linked to the same ancestor,” says Professor Eiberg. “They have all inherited the same switch at exactly the same spot in their DNA.” Brown-eyed individuals, by contrast, have considerable individual variation in the area of their DNA that controls melanin production.

Professor Eiberg and his team examined mitochondrial DNA and compared the eye colour of blue-eyed individuals in countries as diverse as Jordan, Denmark and Turkey. His findings are the latest in a decade of genetic research, which began in 1996, when Professor Eiberg first implicated the OCA2 gene as being responsible for eye color. Nature shuffles our genes

The mutation of brown eyes to blue represents neither a positive nor a negative mutation. It is one of several mutations such as hair color, baldness, freckles and beauty spots, which neither increases nor reduces a human’s chance of survival. As Professor Eiberg says, “it simply shows that nature is constantly shuffling the human genome, creating a genetic cocktail of human chromosomes and trying out different changes as it does so.”

MASALA CHICKEN

750g chicken
2tbsp olive oil
1 finely chopped onion
4tsp ginger garlic paste(2tsp ginger paste+2tsp garlic paste)
2tsp turmeric powder
1tsp fenugreek powder( ground)
2tbsp coriander leaves(chopped)
2tbsp chilli sauce(sweet)
1tbsp garam masala
1cup chicken stock
1/2cup coconut milk
salt to taste

Coat the chicken pieces with turmeric powder and leave for a few minutes.
Heat olive oil in a pan and saute the chicken for 2-3 minutes over medium heat,until the pieces turn brown.n
Heat some more oil in the same pan and saute the onion and ginger garlic paste for 4-5 minutes.
Add chopped coriander,mint leaves and the ground fenugreek.
Add chilli sauce, garam masala, chicken stock and the coconut milk.
Finally add the chicken pieces and simmer on a low flame for about 45minutes.
Add salt to taste.
Garnish with the remaining coriander leaves and serve with rice.

PANEER BHURJI

Each time the milk curdles, it was an oppurtunity to make my favorite paalkova or rasagullah. But this time it curdled, i decided to make something different. aAnd that's where i decided to do PANEER BHURJI.
Its a simple dish and a vegetarian alternative to SCRAMBLED EGGS.
Here is the recipe for PANEER BHURJI:

INGREDIENTS:
paneer or senna or cottage cheese got from 1 liter of milk.
1 big onion finely chopped
1-2 green chillies finely chopped
1tsp mustard
1tsp urad dal
1tsp chilli powder
1/2 tsp turmeric powder
salt to taste
a few coriander leaves for garnishing

PREPARATION:
heat 3tsp oil in a kadai and when its hot add the mustard and urad dal and saute for a minute. add the finely chopped onions and saute till translucent. next, add the chopped chillies and saute for another minute. add salt, chilli powder and turmeric powder and mix well. then add the paneer and mix it well with the onion and chilli mixture. no need to add more oil as the oiliness of the paneer is more than enough. crumble the paneer before adding it to the mixture or with the spoon after adding it.
serve garnished with coriander leaves.
optionally tomatoes (1) and capsicum (1) can be added to this dish too.

tastes good as filling for chappatis, puris and sandwiches

p.s you may wonder how come i who previously posted garlic soup with all my strict diet oath, has posted this recipe now about paneer which is contra indicated for diet control. but that's because this was a post i forgot to publish from my draft list.lol. u guys atleast savour the taste of this recipe i hope. my luck is bad for now :(

GARLIC SOUP

Soups were some thing I hated all my life, especially because of the corn flour in it. But alas! The time has come for me to maintain a strict diet as I am gaining weight beyond my BMI. I was suggested to try soups and broths with other stuff.
so I started with a simple soup recipe and it was garlic soup
so here is how I did it

8 garlic flakes
pepper powder as per taste
salt as per taste
few vegetable pieces
2cloves
1/2 tsp thyme
a few parsley sprigs
oil
4cups water

If you got an oven, you can preheat it to 350 degrees and when it is ready roast the garlic flakes in it and then peel their skins.
Or you can boil the garlic in some water for a minute or two, then rinse and peel the skins.
Or you can halve the whole garlic midway and place them in kadai dribbled with oil. When it has roasted, you will be able to remove the skin like a cap off your head.
So finally what I am trying to say is peel the skin, roast it or boil it to peel off the skin!!!!!!!!!!!
Next put the garlic into a large saucepan together with the cloves, thyme, parsley and oil. Saute for a while. At the same time mash the garlic with the spoon( potato riser).
[If that seems hard you could first run the roasted garlic pieces in a mixer and then proceed with the sauting in the oil part with the other ingredients as mentioned above] And then add water and salt to taste.
Bring to a boil and simmer for 30 minutes. Strain the soup and return it to the pan.
Add the mixed vegetables and simmer for another 20 minutes or until the vegetables are tender.
Remove from heat.
You could eat it with bread or toasted bread.
And if you dont have any diet limit like me you could garnish by sprinkling grated cheese over it.

CHANGE YOUR THINKING

this is one of the lovely stories that i got in one of my forward mails. you might have read it already, heard it some where, still reading again could remind you of a lesson you forget, to change the way we think..
so here is the story:
Two men, both seriously ill, occupied the same hospital room.
One man was allowed to sit up in his bed for an hour each afternoon to help drain the fluid from his lungs.
His bed was next to the room's only window.
The other man had to spend all his time flat on his back.
The men talked for hours on end.
They spoke of their wives and families, their homes, their jobs, their involvement in the military service, where they had been on vacation..
Every afternoon, when the man in the bed by the window could sit up, he would pass the time by describing to his roommate all the things he could see outside the window.
The man in the other bed began to live for those one hour periods where his world would be broadened and enlivened by all the activity and color of the world outside.
The window overlooked a park with a lovely lake.
Ducks and swans played on the water while children sailed their model boats. Young lovers walked arm in arm amidst flowers of every color and a fine view of the city skyline could be seen in the distance.
As the man by the window described all this in exquisite details, the man on the other side of the room would close his eyes and imagine this picturesque scene.
One warm afternoon, the man by the window described a parade passing by.
Although the other man could not hear the band - he could see it in his mind's eye as the gentleman by the window portrayed it with descriptive words
Days, weeks and months passed.
One morning, the day nurse arrived to bring water for their baths only to find the lifeless body of the man by the window, who had died peacefully in his sleep.
She was saddened and called the hospital attendants to take the body away.
As soon as it seemed appropriate, the other man asked if he could be moved next to the window.. The nurse was happy to make the switch, and after making sure he was comfortable, she left him alone.
Slowly, painfully, he propped himself up on one elbow to take his first look at the real world outside.
He strained to slowly turn to look out the window besides the bed.
It faced a blank wall.
The man asked the nurse what could have compelled his deceased roommate who had described such wonderful things outside this window.
The nurse responded that the man was blind and could not even see the wall.
She said, 'Perhaps he just wanted to encourage you.

Epilogue:
There is tremendous happiness in making others happy, despite our own situations.
Shared grief is half the sorrow, but happiness when shared, is doubled.
If you want to feel rich, just count all the things you have that money can't buy.
'Today is a gift, that is why it is called The Present.'
The origin of this letter is unknown

AMMA- POO MUGAM SIVAKKA-TAMIL MOVIE SONG

Today I have finally done some thing I had been wanting to do in a long time.

There is this one special song "Poo mugam sivakka" from the movie "Amma".

Its a tamil song for those who may wonder what language it is.

And the song is a lullaby. The whole song has very sorrowful meaning and yet is a soothing lullaby.

I have my own history behind this song, but that is not necessary is it? So not wasting any more words bragging about it.

Wondering what on earth am I trying to say...

Well its just that I had a tough time searching for this song as the cassette copy of this song wore out over a span of 27 years. It was not available in any of the stores in my town and then I tried finding it online and finally succeeded in my attempt with the help of some friends. Though I got 5 copies of that song now, I felt it would be safer to have it available online any time I may want it. And my choice was Youtube. With the help of Windows movie maker,the audio of the song, a few lovely clips and the lyrics I made the Youtube video in a span of few minutes.

ELEPHANTA CAVES, MUMBAI

Its a month and a half since i stepped into Mumbai as a newly wedded.. lady or girl or woman.. whichever suits for the readers and only today I had the time and thought to browse the map of Mumbai and the first thing that attracted me was the Elephanta caves. i love history (except the dates.. BC and AD..that's quiet hard to remember!!!) and Elephanta caves is a historical spot.
So here goes all that i got through browsing..

The Elephanta Island (also called Gharapuri Island or Place of Caves) are a great tourist attraction in the vicinity of the large Mumbai metropolis. The Elephanta island is located 10 km/9 nautical miles away from the Gateway of India at Mumbai on the Gharapuri Island, a confabulation of three small villages.
These caves, a UNESCO world heritage site, are frequently visited by domestic and foreign travelers.

The caves assumed to be dating back to the period 9th to 13th century AD, are famous for the ancient sculptures and the temple dedicated to Lord Shiva.
These caves house rock cut temples dating back to the 5th century CE.
The Elephanta island was so named by the Portuguese, after the statue of an elephant near the landing area of the island( the elephant sculpture collapsed in 1814, when the British relocated it to the Victoria Gardens now Mumbai's zoo, where it still stands).

How They were Constructed:
This rock cut temples were created by carving out rock, and creating the columns, the internal spaces and the images. The entire temple is akin to a huge sculpture, through whose corridors and chambers one can walk. The entire complex was created through a process of rock removal. Some of the rock surfaces are highly finished while some are untreated bare rock.

The entire cave temple complex covers an area of about 60000 square feet and it consists of a main chamber and two lateral ones , courtyards and several subsidiary shrines. Above the temple is a mass of natural rock.

There are three entrances to this temple. The ones on the east and the west marking the axis of the temple. A 20 pillared hall lines the axis, and on its western end is the cell in which is enshrined a Shivalingam. The pillars consist of fluted columns standing on square bases, and are crowned with fluted cushion capitals.

The enigmatic image of Trimurti Sadasiva: The Sadasiva manifestation of Shiva is carved in relief at the end of the north south axis. This collossal 20 feet high image of the three headed Shiva, Trimurthy is a magnificient one, considered to be a masterpiece of Indian art. This colossal image represents Panchamukha Shiva, only three faces of whom are carved into the wall and it demands immediate attention upon entering the temple through the northern entrance.

Also on the southern wall are grand sculptured images of Kalyanasundara, Gangadhara, Ardhanariswara and Uma Maheswara. To the west of the northern entrance are sculptured images of Nataraja and Andhakaasuravadamoorthy, and to its east are images of Yogiswara and Ravanaanugrahamurthy.

To the east of the main temple is a courtyard, flanked by the secondary shrine. This temple contains six pillars at its entrance, four of which are free standing and two engaged. The entrance leads to a hall decorated with sculptured panels depicting legends from the Shiva Purana.

Getting there:
Approach to the Island is by boat. Luxury and ordinary launches as well as catamarans leave for Elephanta from Apollo Bunder at the Gateway of India. Boats usually leave every half-hour from 9 am to 2 pm from Apollo Bunder and between 1 pm and 5 pm from Elephanta Island. Tickets are sold at booths near the Gateway of India and the MTDC offers daily tours to the Island. During the monsoons the ordinary boat services are usually suspended.
